The Cavaliers' victory was made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Scripps Howard Foundation and Virginia 529. Jason Tomick, coach of the Princess Anne students, described the team as a well-oiled machine, with each member understanding their role and strengths. Tomick commented that competing in quiz bowls teaches kids important lessons about sportsmanship, which could be seen in the gracious behavior of the team as they accepted their first-place award.
William Cenzon, a member of the team boasted a strong history specialty and had no trouble competing in this area. Tomick added that it is always impressive to witness the intelligence of the students which often goes beyond their years.
