Living in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach, VA Community

Many of Vincent van Gogh's paintings have become elements of iconic artwork, the remaining might of its influence attracting hundreds of thousands to attend Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience. As a testament to his powerful artistry, the exhibition brings forth this Dutch painter's vibrant colors and unique brushstrokes that heavily resonate with people worldwide.

Vincent van Gogh is an iconic artist whose artwork has become firmly embedded in our collective consciousness. From tote bags featuring his self-portrait to mugs decorated with "Starry Night" and laminated prints of "Fifteen Sunflowers," his artwork can be found in museum gift shops everywhere - even when the museum doesn't possess any originals.

This widespread admiration has resulted in an unprecedented five million tickets being sold for the traveling art show 'Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience' which opens July 6 in Virginia Beach. Featuring projected digital images of more than 300 of van Gogh's paintings, the Virginia Beach Convention Center exhibition offers a unique opportunity to view the artist's work up close - with some time slots already sold out.

As the new director of curatorial affairs at the Chrysler Museum of Art, Mark Castro was delighted to be part of this celebration of the 19th-century Dutch painter. "I think at the core of why van Gogh is one of these artists lodged in our collective consciousness is the kind of immense quality and innovation of his work," he said. The exhibition is a testament to van Gogh's enduring power and beauty, allowing viewers to enter the radiant yellows and harmonious blues that make his artwork so captivating.

His 1889 painting of a rain-soaked field, "Rain," on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, is an especially poignant example of his emotional resonance. The subtle gradations of gray and white evoke a gloomy atmosphere that immediately reaches out to viewers with its vulnerability and intimacy.

It's no wonder that the 3D exhibition has already attracted so many people to buy tickets; digital technology allows for an even more immersive experience. The art historian Castro understands this perfectly, noting that the digital “is as real as the physical in many ways, for many people.”

Ticket Prices

Visitors of all ages can enjoy an exciting experience; tickets start at $33.99 for adults, $23.99 for children ages 5 through 15, and children four and younger get in free.

Van Gogh's "Rain" and other works of art attest to the gripping visual impact he could create more than a century later. With tickets already sold out for Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, the artist's immense suffering and creative legacy shine through in this remarkable show. While van Gogh's artwork will continue to endure in rooms, on mugs, and in famous museums, this is an excellent opportunity to witness the power of his superior artistry first-hand. An ocean of digital images transforms Virginia Beach into a place to truly appreciate visions of another time and see why paintings by Vincent van Gogh remain a charismatic part of our cultural identity.
