Living in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach, VA Community

As fall colors adorn Virginia Beach, runners and families are lacing up for a community tradition that spans nearly half a century. The 47th Annual Turkey Trot 10K and 1 Mile Run is not just any race; it’s a vibrant celebration of health, happiness, and giving back. With all proceeds funneling into the Tidewater Striders Scholarship fund, participants can feel good knowing their stride contributes to an uplifting cause. This family-oriented event promises a healthy start to the holiday season with races suited for all ages and abilities.

When and Where

The racing starts bright and early, with the one 1-mile run set for an 8:15 AM start. This friendly out-and-back course begins and concludes in front of the festive Mt Trashmore YMCA, offering a perfect warm-up or standalone challenge for younger runners and families. At 9 AM, the 10K racers take their marks. This certified course weaves through the scenic Windsor Woods, circles the picturesque Mt Trashmore City Park, and culminates with a triumphant finish at the YMCA. Both courses highlight the natural beauty of Virginia Beach, making for a memorable morning.

Registration

For those itching to hit the pavement, registration details are as welcoming as the event itself. Early birds can lock in their spot for a discounted fee of $35 until May 31, after which the registration will incrementally increase to $50 leading up to race day. The Turkey Trot graciously extends a $8.00 discount for youthful participants aged 22 and under through November 27, ensuring families can enjoy this holiday tradition together without breaking the bank. It invites runners of all ages to partake in the seasonal joy.

Why Join?

But the Turkey Trot is more than just a race; it’s an experience. Every participant receives a colorful, long-sleeved T-shirt to commemorate their achievement – though early registration is recommended to ensure your preferred size. Beyond the finish line lies a delightful post-race party in the YMCA parking lot, where runners can enjoy complimentary refreshments, revel in the success with fellow participants, and maybe even take home an age group award.

With finisher medals awaiting all who complete their race, this event combines the spirit of competition with the heart of community celebration. Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or a festive walker, the Turkey Trot welcomes you to their next chapter of holiday tradition.
